Vanishings
2018-2022
Spanning the disciplines of painting, sculpture and photography, the artist employs an innovative technique using pigmented plaster reliefs and translucent photographic emulsion entwined with layers of oil paint.
Tilted Horizon and other works use dark or mid-toned pigmented plaster as a substrate; variegated layers of primer remain visible through subsequent layers of photo emulsion and oil. The viewer is confronted with uncertainty around what is photographic and what is paint.
The work is haptic, meaning related to the sense of touch.  Objects are created in which visuality and tactility intertwine so thoroughly as to become inseparable.
